Clear skies over Central are providing another Kodak moment as the moon starts to appear full this week.

In recent weeks it was the Aurora Australis that left people in all corners of Central reaching for their cameras, but tonight it was the moon.

An image taken by Kathy Smith from Juniper Close, Alexandra, shows the moon rising above the Knobby Range, dwarfing the town’s clock in the foreground.

Tomorrow it will be full, so anyone who missed it rising tonight will get another chance to see it tomorrow, so long as the district gets another clear evening.

At the moment, it appears it could go either way.

Tomorrow’s weather is predicted to feature a partly cloudy day, with a few morning showers and light winds, and a high of 8 degrees Celsius.

However, a polar jet stream is on course to hit the South Island at the weekend, Niwa said.

“Autumn is ending as it started - with below average temperatures.”

The southerly change could also bring a period of gusty winds to some parts.
