On behalf of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, Aspiring Highways will be starting safety changes at the Muttontown Road/SH8 intersection near Clyde from Monday April 10.
Crashes at the intersection prompted a change to left-in-only after public consultation on people’s preferences, Waka Kotahi Central Otago maintenance contract manager Peter Standring said.
“The work to close one lane, install new signage and mark up the changed road layout will take around three weeks or 15 working days, weather permitting,” he said.

During the construction period, there will be no access from SH8 onto Muttontown Road.
The detour will be via Sunderland and Hospital Streets.
Over the three weeks, April 10 to May 1, residents have been warned to expect noisy conditions near the work site with some vibration between 7am and 5pm.
“Thanks to all local road users and residents for taking care around this work site for the three or so weeks of work and keeping pets and children safely away,” Peter said.
