An annual charity outdoor bowls tournament in Central has raised $6000 for Dunstan Hospital.
Held on Sunday afternoon, the tournament saw 22 teams of three bowlers battle it out on the greens in Alexandra.
ADC Bowls president and ADC Bowls Charity Tournament secretary Geoff Moore said conditions were perfect for bowls and the tournament was a success.
Central Otago Health Services Ltd (COHSL) chief executive Hayley Anderson thanked organisers for the unexpected contribution, which will provide much-needed funds for important hospital initiatives.
"We have many smaller initiatives we could apply funds to including (but not limited to) unfunded improvements for staff facilities, fore example sleep areas for staff on call, more comfortable seating in the whanau/family room, upgrade of our Palliative Care area, capital equipment on the wish list not able to be purchased on our capital purchase programme, vehicle purchase, outdoor seating for patients/whanau/staff, shade areas for patients/whanau/staff.
"We are extremely grateful to ADC Bowling Club and Alexandra Family Medical, the businesses that sponsored the event and to our generous community," Hayley said.
The tournament is supported by local general practice Alexandra Family Medical and the Alexandra District Club.
The funds raised came from team entry fees, raffle sales, auctions, donations, and sponsorships.
Last year the fundraiser supported a young preschooler and the granddaughter of an ADC Bowls member, Isabell Gilally, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in April 2022 when she was two years old.
In a show of community support, $17,000 was raised for medical support and bills for Isabel.
At this year’s event an update on Isabel was shared, and she has five more months left to complete her treatment.
Isabel and her family are looking forward to a well-deserved holiday and a trip to the zoo.

Geoff told The Central App last year the fundraiser usually netted approximately $3000 for a local cause.
