Alexandra Swim Club (ASC) was named club of the year by Swimming Otago for the second year running, and the club’s awards cabinet is filling up following a haul of other awards.
ASC committee members Nigel and Donna Ellett were recognised as volunteers of the year.
Two ASC swimmers are competing at a national level, Sophie Winter (15) and Liam Rees (15), won titles for Emerging Swimmers of the year.
ASC secretary Shelley Ludlow said the club was proud to also receive the Swim Coaches and Teachers of NZ 'Provincial Club of the year’ this week.
“Term four started with a great turnout of emerging swimmers for the new development squad,” Shelley said.
They will train up to three times a week and will be led by the club's new second coach Brittney Goodrick.
Shane Allan continues in his role as head coach leading the competitive swimmers squad, who will be swimming up to five times a week preparing for upcoming regional and national meets.
Swimmers range in age from seven to 56 years old, and new members are welcome to get in touch with Donna Ellett.
The next Alexandra Swim Meet during Waitangi weekend 2023 promises great competition from regional swimmers and swimmers from further afield.
ASC is on the lookout for local business sponsorship and anyone interested can contact the club’s new president Chris Winter for more information.
Shelley said thanks were due to Alexandra Amigos and L.J. Hooker's Donna Bain for their ongoing support.
The swimming club was formed in February 1920, and originally named Alexandra Coronation Swimming Club.
