Alexandra put on displays of pink to celebrate Pink Shirt Day on Friday (May 19), a day focused on standing up to bullying.
Dunstan High School students were some of the many people participating.
As well as having a pink mufti day, around 200 students from the high school’s Rees and Pyke House took to the community.
Activities included visiting Ranui Home and Hospital, going to Alexandra Primary School to play games with the young students, making posters, chalk art, and baking for the community.
All the activities focused on spreading kindness to those across the town.
Students baked for the community
Student Isla Redgrave helped with running games at Alex Primary.
“The kids matched our excitement and indulged themselves fully into our games. It was fulfilling to see their faces light up,” she said.
Making posters spreading words of kindness and anti-bullying messages was “good fun” according to student Hamish.
Baking done on Friday will be distributed around the community to rest homes, schools, and businesses next week. Creations included black forest slice, apricot slice, lolly cake and Mars bar slice.
The students hope the activities will become an annual event to coincide with Pink Shirt Day and its values.
