Bendigo Mine Loop Track

Bendigo Mine Loop Track

This is the shortest of the Bendigo walking tracks in 1.5 km, 45 minutes. Have a look at the Welshtown hut remains before continuing down through the Kanuka trees, following the yellow markers. The track passes the first of many mine shafts: this one covered with netting. All of these are dangerous and may be very deep, so care should be taken over the whole area.

The track continues down, passing a blacksmiths shop and more uncovered shafts to meet a cart track leading down to the Matilda Battery site. The walk may be accessed by driving to the car park at Welshtown. From SH8 near Bendigo Station, follow the Bendigo Loop Road and branch off up the hill at the site of the Bendigo township, where there is an information kiosk. Follow this steep road a further 4km to Welshtown where more information panels and a toilet are located.
