A 5,000 litre water tank has been blazingly stolen from the White Horse Hotel in Becks, with locals furious.

A post on social media has called for leads, with the hotel unable to open until the tank is returned, or a replacement found.

Unfortunately, the society which runs the building does not have the required insurance to replace the tank.

The hunt for the missing White Horse Hotel water tank has taken to social media.

“I want to let you all know that some low life in the last 4 weeks during lockdown has STOLEN a 5000ltr water tank from the Historic White Horse Hotel in Becks Central Otago,” the Facebook post said.

“The tank was put in in 2004 as required by the Fire Service so that the Historic Hotel could be open to the public.

“As the society only carries public liability insurance there is no way that this can be replaced unless the community can raise the funds to do so.

“The building is one of the oldest hotels still standing in New Zealand and now must remain closed to the public.

“Any information on this if you may have seen it on the road or have seen a second hand tank turn up somewhere in the last few weeks please contact us or the Omakau Police. Thanks everyone.”

If you have any information on the crime, you can contact Crimestoppers, message the Southern District Police on social media, or contact the Omakau Police Station.
