NZTA/Waka Kotahi advise caution even though weather appears to be improving

A NZTA/Waka Kotahi spokesperson says conditions have now improved to some degree across Te Wai Pounamu/South Island, although there are still where the journey may be slower and down to single lane in places. Windchill is still in factor in many places also.

Many roads in the lower South Island are still affected, and it is recommended you check Road Conditions the before travelling.

The forecast for tomorrow could potentially also include more snow and ice, so the NZTA/Waka Kotahi’s advice remains the same – for people to check the highways before setting off, travel prepared for possible delays in cold conditions and carry chains if the highways you are heading towards may require them.
