Temporary Lane Closure – Enterprise Street & Marslin Street, Alexandra


One lane on Enterprise Street and Marslin Street in Alexandra will be closed between Royal Terrace and McKellar St, from Tuesday 22 July to Tuesday 30 September 2025.

 

Access will remain available via a one-way detour. Resident and school access will be maintained.

 

Note: The lane closure may not be required for the full timeframe listed above. Further updates will be made available as the project progresses.

 

The closure is required for a water main replacement.


Overnight road closure - SH6 Kawarau Gorge, just north of Goldfield Mining Centre

Sunday - Thursday, 9pm - 6 am, beginning Sunday 31st August, and ending Thursday 23rd October.


There will be no work or closures during daytime hours, or in the periods from Friday 6am through to Sunday 9pm.


During the nightly periods of closure, the highway will open every hour, on the hour, and any waiting traffic will be piloted through a single lane at the site.


Motorists should prepare for delays of up to an hour when travelling through the area during these closures.

 

Oversize vehicles or loads will be accommodated as long as they adhere to their permit requirements of notification, so that the crew can coordinate with the operator and assist them through the narrow corridor.

 

The work being carried out by Aspiring Highways, on behalf of New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, is to remediate the underslip at Scrubby Corner. This requires the pinning back, strengthening and reinforcing of the current crib retaining wall. This will be achieved by boring anchors through the existing retaining wall into rock and structurally connecting those anchors into the existing crib wall.

 

Temporary Road Closure – Earnscleugh Road, Alexandra

(Pursuant to the Transport Vehicular Traffic Road Closure Regulations 1965)

From 15th September into December 24/7.

 

The eastbound lane on Earnscleugh Road in Alexandra will be closed between Half Mile Road (State Highway 8) and Hart Place, from Monday 15th September; works continue into December 2025. Further updates on opening dates will be sent out as they are confirmed. The closure is 24/7.

 

Westbound traffic: Earnscleugh Road will remain accessible from State Highway 8.

Eastbound traffic: A one-way detour will be available via Aronui Road for light vehicles. Heavy vehicles must detour via Conroys Road.


Please follow posted detour signage.

 

The closure is required for a water main replacement.

Project Update – Little Valley Road Bridge, Alexandra

 

Central Otago District Council is preparing to rehabilitate Little Valley Road bridge on the Manuherekia River to extend its life, improve safety and support heavy vehicles. This important project will ensure the bridge remains a safe, reliable and accessible community link for residents, farmers, businesses, emergency services and visitors including Otago Central Rail Trail users.

 

What’s happening?

October to December 2025 – A temporary Bailey bridge will be installed from Rivers Street Park (also known as Linger and Die Park) to Graveyard Gully Road, to ensure traffic flow.

January to June 2026 – Closure and rehabilitation of Little Valley Road bridge.

Post-June 2026 – Bailey bridge removed, site reinstated, landscaping and signage. Project completed.


 

Temporary Road Closure – Blossom Festival, Madi Gras & Motorcross Events

(Pursuant to the Transport Vehicular Traffic Road Closure Regulations 1965)

 

Council proposes to close the following sections of road in Alexandra:

 

Rivers Street between Thompson Street and 32 Rivers Street, from 1300 to 2100 on Friday 26th September 2025.

 

Walton Street &Thompson Street between Skird Street & Tarbert Street, from 1500 to 2100 on Friday 26th September 2025.

 

Bantry Street & Shannon Street besides Pioneer Park, from 0600 to 1800 on Saturday 27th September 2025.

 

Centennial Avenue/Dunorling Street (State Highway 8) between Clutha Street to Kelman Street, and Tarbert Street (State Highway 85) between Dunorling Street to Bantry Street, from 1000 – 1500 on Saturday 27th September 2025.

 

Killarney Street between Brandon Street to Centennial Avenue, from 1000 – 1400 on Saturday 27th September 2025.


These closures are to facilitate the Annual Blossom Festival, Madi Gras and Motorcross Events
