Regulation 11, Heavy Motor Vehicle Regulations 1974

 

Notice is hereby given that pursuant to regulation 11(3) of the Heavy Motor Vehicle Regulations 1974, the Central Otago District Council has fixed the following maximum mass and speed limits for heavy motor vehicles and combinations including a heavy motor vehicle on the bridges described hereunder:


Attention is drawn to the applicable penalties and infringement fees set out in Schedule 1A or Part 3 of Schedule 1B of the Land Transport (Offences and Penalties) Regulations 1999, which apply to infringements of these limits.


Temporary Road Closure Matilda Rise, Bendigo

(Pursuant to the Transport Vehicular Traffic Road Closure Regulations 1965)

 

Matilda Rise, Bendigo will be closed for Civil Works between Monday 17th November 2025 and Friday 28th November 2025. These dates are weather dependent.

There is no detour available, closure is 24/7.


Temporary Restricted Access Gillaly Way Bridge Hill- From Monday 17th November 2025

 As part of our ongoing pipeline installation project progressing from Aronui Road into Gillaly Way, we would like to inform you that road access along Gillaly Way will be temporarily blocked during construction.

 

To ensure continued access, we are constructing an alternate metaled accessway at the end of Gillaly Way, which will connect directly to the State Highway, please see illustration below.

This route will be available for resident use and will also provide access for emergency services. This access will be available 24/7.



Little Valley Road Bridge, Alexandra

Central Otago District Council is preparing to rehabilitate Little Valley Road bridge on the Manuherekia River to extend its life, improve safety and support heavy vehicles. This important project will ensure the bridge remains a safe, reliable and accessible community link for residents, farmers, businesses, emergency services and visitors including Otago Central Rail Trail users.

 

What’s happening?

October to December 2025 – A temporary Bailey bridge will be installed from Rivers Street Park (also known as Linger and Die Park) to Graveyard Gully Road, to ensure traffic flow.

January to June 2026 – Closure and rehabilitation of Little Valley Road bridge.

Post-June 2026 – Bailey bridge removed, site reinstated, landscaping and signage. Project completed.


Temporary Road Closure – Earnscleugh Road, Alexandra

(Pursuant to the Transport Vehicular Traffic Road Closure Regulations 1965)

From 15th September into December 24/7.

 

The eastbound lane on Earnscleugh Road in Alexandra will be closed between Half Mile Road (State Highway 8) and Hart Place, from Monday 15th September; works continue into December 2025. Further updates on opening dates will be sent out as they are confirmed. The closure is 24/7.

 

Westbound traffic: Earnscleugh Road will remain accessible from State Highway 8.

Eastbound traffic: A one-way detour will be available via Aronui Road for light vehicles. Heavy vehicles must detour via Conroys Road.


Please follow posted detour signage.

The closure is required for a water main replacement.


Upcoming:


Temporary Road Closure – Fache Street

(Pursuant to the Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965)

 

Please be advised that Fache Street between Fraser Street and Naylor Street, will be closed to vehicular traffic on Monday 24th November to Friday 28th November 2025. Closure will be in place 24/7

Access for residents will be maintained where possible.

The closure is required to carry out excavation works in the berm and both lanes of the carriageway to install a new water and sewer connection

 

A detour will be available via Naylor St, Sunderland St, Whitby St, Fraser St, Newcastle St, Hazlett St





Temporary Road Closure – Holloway Street, Clyde

(Pursuant to the Transport Vehicular Traffic Road Closure Regulations 1965)

Saturday 6 December 2025, 12pm - 7pm

 

A section of Holloway Street in Clyde will be closed for vehicles, for the Clyde’s Annual Christmas Market.

A detour will be available via Naylor Street and Sunderland Street.
