Temporary Road Closure – Butcher Drive, Cromwell

Little Valley Road Bridge, Alexandra

 Central Otago District Council is preparing to rehabilitate Little Valley Road bridge on the Manuherekia River to extend its life, improve safety and support heavy vehicles. This important project will ensure the bridge remains a safe, reliable and accessible community link for residents, farmers, businesses, emergency services and visitors including Otago Central Rail Trail users.

What’s happening?

October to December 2025 – A temporary Bailey bridge will be installed from Rivers Street Park (also known as Linger and Die Park) to Graveyard Gully Road, to ensure traffic flow.

January to June 2026 – Closure and rehabilitation of Little Valley Road bridge.

Post-June 2026 – Bailey bridge removed, site reinstated, landscaping and signage. Project completed.

Overnight road closure - SH6 Kawarau Gorge, just north of Goldfield Mining Centre

Sunday - Thursday, 9pm - 6 am, beginning Sunday 31st August. Had hoped to complete work by 24th October, but now extended to 7th November.

There will be no work or closures during daytime hours, or in the periods from Friday 6am through to Sunday 9pm.

During the nightly periods of closure, the highway will open every hour, on the hour, and any waiting traffic will be piloted through a single lane at the site.

Motorists should prepare for delays of up to an hour when travelling through the area during these closures.

Oversize vehicles or loads will be accommodated as long as they adhere to their permit requirements of notification, so that the crew can coordinate with the operator and assist them through the narrow corridor.

The work being carried out by Aspiring Highways, on behalf of New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, is to remediate the underslip at Scrubby Corner. This requires the pinning back, strengthening and reinforcing of the current crib retaining wall. This will be achieved by boring anchors through the existing retaining wall into rock and structurally connecting those anchors into the existing crib wall.

Temporary Road Closure – Earnscleugh Road, Alexandra

(Pursuant to the Transport Vehicular Traffic Road Closure Regulations 1965)

From 15th September into December 24/7.

The eastbound lane on Earnscleugh Road in Alexandra will be closed between Half Mile Road (State Highway 8) and Hart Place, from Monday 15th September; works continue into December 2025. Further updates on opening dates will be sent out as they are confirmed. The closure is 24/7.

Westbound traffic: Earnscleugh Road will remain accessible from State Highway 8.

Eastbound traffic: A one-way detour will be available via Aronui Road for light vehicles. Heavy vehicles must detour via Conroys Road.

Please follow posted detour signage.

The closure is required for a water main replacement.

Upcoming:

Temporary Road Closure – Moa Street (Near Centennial Street, Alexandra)

 (Pursuant to the Transport Vehicular Traffic Road Closure Regulations 1965)

A section of the Southbound Lane Moa Street between Centennial Ave and Kenmare Street will be closed for watermain inspection on Tuesday 21st October 2025

Time of closure will be from 8am - 4pm

These works will impact the ability for vehicles exiting left onto Moa Street from New World car park, please utilise the alternative exit onto Centennial Ave during this period.

Temporary Road Closure – Melmore Terrace and Erris Street

 (Pursuant to the Transport Vehicular Traffic Road Closure Regulations 1965)

Please be advised that the following will be closed to vehicular access on Sunday 26th October 2025 for the Cromwell Street Party and Fireworks Festival:

 Melmore Terrace between Achil Street and the end of the Cul de Sac, and Erris Street and the end of the Cul de Sac.

Closure will go from approx.12pm for event and road will be opened up approx..1am or earlier if deemed safe to do so by STMS.

Residents impacted will be assisted access to properties by onsite Traffic Management staff.

Temporary Road Closure – Mt Pisa Road, Cromwell

 (Pursuant to the Transport Vehicular Traffic Road Closure Regulations 1965)

A temporarily close Mt Pisa Road to ordinary vehicular traffic on Sunday 2nd November 2025, to facilitate a Motorsport Event.

 Times of closure will be from 7am - 6pm

Resident will be assisted with access to and from affected properties as required during the closure period

Temporary Road Closure – Various Road, Clyde

(Pursuant to the Local Government Act 1974)

The following roads will be impacted by the Clyde Classic Running Event on Saturday 1st November 2025

Sunderland Street and Fraser Street – closed from 7:00am to 10:00am

Pyke Street, Blyth Street, and Whitby Street – closed from 7:00am to 12:00pm

A detour will be available via Whitby Street, Newcastle Street, Fache Street and Holloway Street.

 Access to and from affected properties will be managed during the closure period, with assistance provided to residents as needed.

Temporary Road Closure – Mt Pisa Road, Cromwell

(Pursuant to the Transport Vehicular Traffic Road Closure Regulations 1965)

A temporarily close Mt Pisa Road to ordinary vehicular traffic on Sunday 2nd November 2025, 0700 - 1800 hrs to facilitate a Motorsport Event.

Resident will be assisted with access to and from affected properties as required during the closure period
