Women’s soccer growing in AlexandraWomen’s soccer is now played in Alexandra on Wednesday evenings

Alexandra United Football Club (AUFC) has a new group of women playing football on Wednesday nights at Molyneux Park - and more players are welcome.

The fun and social kick around starts at 6pm with skills followed by a game.

AUFC president Aaron Dykes said all women aged 15 and up are invited to come along and try it out.

“Our women’s kick around was a great success this week...[there] is no cost and it is suitable for all skill levels."

Aaron said the club was keen to spread the word and get more women and girls into the sport.

“Alexandra doesn't currently have a women's team however we know there is interest out there we just need to pull you together.

“This will give the younger girls from AUFC and Dunstan High School a fresh outlet and anyone else a chance to try football or pull the boots back on,” he said.

Sixteen women attended the first kick around on February 8

“Bring your mum, sister, daughter or BFF… a drink bottle and footwear suitable for kicking a ball.”

Aaron said he is hoping to introduce the same women’s game to Cromwell in the future.

AUFC had two girls-only teams in the junior competition in 2022 and the club hopes to have more junior girl players this year.

The club is taking registrations for under six to under 17-year-old players for the 2023 season and coaches and managers are needed.
