White Christmas in summer?Fires were burning in parts of Central Otago, as hail storms and a dusting of snow created a white Christmas for some.

The Christmas weather in Central Otago was full of as many surprises as Santa’s sack.

The weather in Central Otago over the Christmas period was full of surprises, and readers contacted us with reports of heavy hail storms and snow settling around Oturehua.

However, Central turned up trumps on Christmas Day, showing off four seasons in one day for many. There’s even free movies on offer in Naseby in case it rains.

Phil Flanagan is offering free movies in the beautifully restored old stables and general store in Naseby, perfect for those rainy days.

Boxing Day also saw hail, with reports coming in of some heavy hail storms. Oturehua residents were treated to a white Christmas, with snow settling on the ground.

Since then, the sun has shone and people are out and about enjoying all that Central has to offer.

Shona and Jason are keeping Naseby holidaymakers happy with good coffee, icecream and waffles.

The Lake Dunstan trail has proved popular, with boaties and jet skiers out on Lake Dunstan.

Bikers enjoy the Lake Dunstan Trail, while boaties and jetskiers enjoy the water.

Out and about in Naseby over the Christmas period, we saw residents and visitors enjoying good coffee, great food and warm sunshine.

Naseby also sports a very cute entrepreneur, who has opened a pop up store on the main street. Her sign entices shoppers to buy books, clothes, shoes, bubble wands, water pistols and lollies.

Shop local and support Naseby’s youngest and cutest business-woman.

Metservice is predicting another round of changeable weather taking us through to the New Year, so make sure you soak up as much Central Otago sun as you can.
