So this is it - the big 2021 we have all been waiting and willing for through 2020.
While last year was completely dominated by headlines of COVID-19, I think 2021 will be much of the same.
Though there will be one big thing to look forward to - the long-awaited goodbye to Donald Trump’s presidency.
With 2021 I think we are all hoping for the best, and praying for an end to the pandemic.
The doom and gloom predictions of crashing economies haven’t quite reached the rock-bottom levels of what some predicted, but many will no doubt be keeping a close watch on the stock market.
Locally, Central Otago has been humming along nicely, with Central Otago District Council reports saying we have been performing well.
There are also reports of thousands of more people calling Central Otago home, with returning Kiwis as well as domestic buyers moving into the area.
We are all lucky we have this paradise to call home.
Support of local business in 2020 has been a real highlight. Let us all continue that in 2021.
On that front, the 2020 support of local businesses has been great, however the continual support is where the proof in the pudding is.
If we all support our neighbours and their businesses, this paradise will continue to flourish.
Even if it is just a coffee at a local cafe - if you can spare the change - those things go a long way.
The year 2021 will shape up to be a big one with many projects underway and nearing completion for the district.
Numerous Council projects are close to finish, so too is the much-awaited cycle trail through the Cromwell Gorge.
Our fruit season is shaping up to be okay after there were fears it would be held back by a shortage of workers.
Domestic tourism has been a booming industry after COVID shut our borders, with Kiwis rediscovering the joys of travelling our island home.
I hope 2021 will be a big year for all of you, and we continue to show our Central Otago community the kindness and generosity we are well-known for.
The grass is greener where you water it, I say.
Let’s keep doing what we are doing, and aim high. Keep using that COVID Tracer App and let us all hope our nation can remain free of the illness.
Happy New Year!
