A 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck near the top of Lake Hāwea at 1.45pm this afternoon.

Felt it reports were registered with GeoNet from across the Upper Clutha.

The earthquake follows a 4.4 magnitude earthquake in the Matukituki Valley yesterday.

Todays earthquake was at a depth of 5 kilometres.
