Wao Summit returnsThe six-day sustainability summit is designed to inspire action towards a carbon zero future

A jam-packed programme has been announced for the upcoming Wao Summit, which will return to Wānaka this October.

With six days of talks, workshops and activities to inspire action towards a carbon zero future, the summit will shine a light on a wide range of topics, Wao co-founder Monique Kelly says.

“Our 2022 programme will focus on changing the way we move, partnerships and

collaboration, de-growth and food resilience.

“We’ll have interactive workshops, kōrero, films and tours all celebrating our local biodiversity and showcasing some of the brightest minds in future thinking.”

The summit schedule includes the award-winning documentary ‘2040’; sessions on global regeneration; climate action in the rural sector; permaculture and the art of eating sustainably; seafood and the planet; and much more.

There will also be workshops about better building, climate accounting, community wellness and waste reduction.

Wao Summit co-ordinator Olivia Bonifant said the summit would provide something for everyone.

“What we are trying to do here is not only educate, but inspire others,” she said.

“If everyone simply considers a small shift in the way they consume, eat and move then we will be well on our way to collective, sustainable change.”

The 2022 Wao Summit will run from October 25-31 in Wānaka and Queenstown.

“No matter where you sit with regard to climate action and sustainability, our Wao

Summit has something here for you,” Olivia said.
