Unplanned power outage hits 600 residentsTuesday started without power (again) for the Chatto Creek tavern

A fault cut power to hundreds of Central residents overnight and this morning (Tuesday October 11), but electricity should be restored at 8.45am, Aurora Energy said.

Omakau, Ida Valley, Chatto Creek, Drybread, Moa Creek, Moutere, Matakanui, Ophir and Poolburn were all affected by the unplanned outage at around 2.30am.

St Bathans, Becks and Lauder also lost power at 2.40am and should have it back on this morning.

A spokesperson for Aurora Energy said approximately 600 people were affected by the outage. The company updated its website and Facebook page at 8am to say power would be back on at 8.45am.

The response crew is currently investigating the reason for the fault, and residents are asked to keep clear of fallen power lines or electrical equipment.

Chatto Creek publican Fiona Sutherland said she was thinking of the farmers and dairies and half the world who start before 7am, as there was no information available to her when she started her working day.

This large outage follows a recent Aurora media release about progress on the investment programme in Central.
