Volunteer firefighters were called to a weather incident in Clyde at 3:20 pm today (Tuesday July 4) after reports of roofs blown off houses.
Clyde chief fire officer Steve Gee says eyewitness accounts described a small, localised tornado which dropped down on a stretch of residential street and damaged roofs.
“We have seasonal gusts of wind around this time but this one was unusual,” Steve said.
“Half a dozen houses were affected, one significantly.”
Fire and Emergency crews secured the area and made sure everyone was safe and local builders assisted the homeowner to secure their house overnight.
No injuries were reported.
