The local Maniototo community will have an opportunity to meet the team behind Transpower’s significant Clutha Upper Waitaki Lines Project (known as CUWLP) on Tuesday March 23, 5.30pm at the Naseby Town Hall.

The Clutha Upper Waitaki Lines Project is a significant infrastructure upgrade underway in Central Otago and the Waitaki region.

The project is a big part of Transpower’s support to shift New Zealand to a low carbon economy.

The Clutha Upper Waitaki Lines Project will help provide more transmission capacity from the lower South Island to areas north, from around 600 MW today to around 1000 MW when completed.

The idea to hold a meeting in Naseby was raised by locals after an informal discussion with Naseby Vision members at a Maniototo Community Board meeting earlier this year.

Clutha Upper Waitaki Lines Project director Roy Noble says “locals are invited to join us for a cup of tea, and a chat, to hear about the project and ask questions on how we do things, learn about any construction impacts and see some gear up close”.

Wires, bolts, and other equipment will be available for inspection as well as a Q&A session to enable discussion.

“We hope to bring a range of equipment with us, for people to look at,” Roy says.
