Theatre group brings comedy to the stageThe cast of Clyde Theatre Group’s play ‘Waiting for Gateuax’ at the Clyde Memorial Hall until April 1

Clyde Theatre Group (CTG) is entertaining local audiences this week with a rollicking comedy, ‘Waiting for Gateaux’, at the Clyde Memorial Hall (March 28 - April 1).

CTG is asking the audience to have fun and dress up in their favourite outfits from the era in which the play is set: the 1990s.

British playwrights Trevor Wood and Ed Waugh co-wrote the play which came from an idea of staging a version of ‘Waiting For Godot’ outside a cake shop.

Since it was written in 2005, it has been produced many times in the United Kingdom and New Zealand.

Local faces starring in the play include Frankie Boyte (as Maureen), Jackie Smith (as Lisa), Kelsey Connell (as the goth Raven), Marianne Maslin (as Sophie), and Rick Mogensen (as Donald).

Social media comments following opening night were: “Lots of laughter and some tender moments too”; and “[t]hey came. They saw. They laughed. They gasped. They had a great time. Gotta love a good audience”.

There is a cash bar and nibbles for sale, and door sales ($30 per ticket) are available if space permits. The play is general admission (with no seat selection), the audience needs to be seated by 7.20pm for a 7.30pm start.
