Central Otago looks to experience a cool change midweek, according to MetService.

MetService meteorologist Angus Hines says the unseasonably warm beginning to this week sees much of Central Otago in the low or even mid-20s.

“The week starts off fine (once cloud and fog burn off) but wind picks up on Tuesday,”Angus says.

“Northwesterlies will pull a lot of cloud over the area, and some scattered rain is possible towards the end of the day.”

Angus says, the main change in this week’s weather happens early on Wednesday morning as a cold front brings rain and fresh southerly winds through Central Otago.

“Maximum temperatures will drop several degrees. Rain will quickly ease back to showers which then clear for most people before the end of the day, but the cooler wind sticks around,” he explains.

The end of the week looks mostly fine.

“A cool morning on Thursday with a possible shower, then a 14C or 15C afternoon with sunshine,” says Angus

“On Friday a westerly wind returns so temperatures climb a bit both day and night, and it’s a dry day with partial cloud cover.”

“Early signs are for fine weather next weekend.”
