Central Otago is experiencing wet and cool weather today but southerlies are on the way out, according to MetService.

Cromwell-raised MetService meteorologist Lewis Ferris says wet and cool weather starts off today (Monday) but the southerlies are on the way out.

By Tuesday it may start out cloudy but by the afternoon the temperatures look to change to fine and warm.

“Wednesday and Thursday looks like a repeat of Tuesday but there might be a risk of an afternoon shower on Wednesday,” Lewis says.

“Friday has the potential for some showers but they’re coming across from the northwest so could be very hit or miss.” he explains.

“There’s also some gusty northwest winds – especially about elevated areas.”

Power outages

This morning there was a power outage in Oturehua and Wedderburn from 7.54am – 8.45am.

PowerNet have said the cause is being investigated.

Power supply was also interrupted again around 9.30am for Oturehua due to overhead line damage. It is expected that this will be back on by 2pm today.

Rainfall expected today throughout the district, bringing a smile to the faces of our farming and gardening community members. It is forecast to ease this afternoon, but is still steadily falling at 10.30am in our region.
