The week’s weather Central Otago experienced a cold blast but warm weather is on its way.

New Zealand encountered a cold southerly blast over the week, which blanketed much of the country in a dusting of snow, however warm weather is on its way.

Central Otago awoke Monday morning to a nice dusting of snow.

Cromwell-raised MetService Meteorologist Lewis Ferris says that cold front will pass over today, with cold mornings forecast through until Thursday when a change blows through.

“The remainder of the cold southerly outbreak lingers today (Monday) with a possibility of isolated snow showers around Central Otago,” Lewis says.

“Cold mornings and mostly fine weather are on the cards for Tuesday and Wednesday.”

Central Otago will seemingly go from winter to spring in a matter of days this week, with snow Monday and temperatures above 16°c on Thursday.

On Tuesday the forecast looks to be fine with morning frosts, with a chance of a shower from the afternoon. Westerly breezes.

Wednesday looks to be fine with morning frosts. Light winds, then northwesterlies from afternoon.

While the mercury won’t nudge much above 6°c on Monday, Lewis says it will hit above 16°c on Thursday.

“On Thursday we see the next weather system arrive bringing rain in the second part of the day,” he says. “Before the rain, gusty northwest winds will bring that temperature up into the mid-teens.

“This weather system clears out quickly and Friday looks to be another fine day.”

Thursday sees clouds increasing. Rain by evening with gusty northwesterlies changing southwest, clearing overnight.

Friday will be fine with morning frosts and light winds.
