The week’s weather Central Otago will feature cool mornings and sunny afternoons this week, before rainy weather arrives on the weekend.

Central Otago is in for an autumn week featuring cool morning and sunny afternoons, with only slight winds this week.

However there will be rain on the radar on the weekend, with some winds as a trough pushes through the Tasman.

MetService Meteorologist Lewis Ferris says the return to relatively stable and fine weather is a welcome return to autumn.

“One of the ‘nicer’ autumn weeks if you ask me,” Lewis says.

“Cool mornings but warm sunny afternoons with little wind.

“However, as the weekend approaches a low pressure system from the Tasman Sea is forecast to pass over the country.”

Lewis says rain will arrive on the weekend, accompanied with some winds.

“This means some rain is due for Central Otago on Saturday and the high country could get some gusty winds for a time,” he says.

“At this point the rainfall accumulations aren’t looking concerning as most of the rain looks to fall in the west.

“There could be a bit more wet weather around on Sunday but that isn’t looking as clear-cut.

“Also there could be another weather feature passing over early next week so make the most of the settled weather this work week.”
