The week’s weather Settled weather looks likely to remain for much of this week, before rain appears likely towards the weekend.

We hope you're enjoying the sunshine today, Otago Anniversary Day. The day we commemorate the settlers arrival in this area on the 23rd of March in 1848.

It looks like we will continue to enjoy a longer run of settled weather this week, as fine days dominate the forecast before rain looks likely towards the weekend.

Cromwell-raised MetService Meteorologist Lewis Ferris says the a large area of high pressure has been responsible for the settled weather around Central Otago.

“While the high has kept away any heavy rain or gales it doesn’t promise completely cloud free days,” Lewis says.

“In fact these stagnant highs can act as a trap for moisture near the cloud and morning cloud or fog is not out of the question.”

Lewis says the settled weather will include cloud and some mist.

“So what to expect this week? Temperatures still hovering around the low 20s, best chance for sunshine will be during the afternoon, winds remain light but high elevations will start to get more northwest winds from Friday.

“Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon run a small risk of isolated showers around the region but it’s unlikely to affect many people.

“The breakdown of the settled weather unfortunately looks to be toward the end of the week with a few spots of rain possible on Saturday and Sunday.”
