Central Otago has weathered the last week of wild weather and looks set to enjoy a relatively settled period this week likely to feature snow, sleet and frosts.
Cromwell-raised MetService meteorologist Lewis Ferris says the wild spring weather will calm down this week but a cold snap will hit the region.
“Finally a relatively settled period, phew,” Lewis says.
“The last seven days saw multiple weather features move over the region bringing very strong northwesterly winds and brief periods of heavy rain and even some lightning last night!”
MetService says a cold front is likely to bring snow and sleep to Central Otago.
Road snowfall warnings are in place for roads across the region, particularly the Lindis and Crown Range.
“It’s not all calm though as the cold front has brought about the risk of snow down to 200m later today (Monday),” Lewis says.
“Tuesday is cool with a few sleety showers in the morning but the easing trend has begun.
“Wednesday starts off frosty but looks to be calm and sunny.
“Maybe frosty again Thursday morning with showers arriving on a southerly change in the afternoon.
“Cloudy and cool again on Friday.”
