Central Otago starts the week fine and frosty, according to Metservice.
Cromwell-raised MetService meteorologist Lewis Ferris says high pressure will settle in for the week, bringing light winds and clear skies which are perfect conditions for heavy frosts.
Those keen to brave the predawn cold might even get a good viewing of Matariki rising in the eastern sky, Lewis said.

“Being this close to the shortest day means the strength of sunlight is very low, so even if the sun comes out in the afternoon we’re still looking at daytime highs in the single digits.
“The settled conditions break down just in time for the long weekend so keep up with the latest forecasts before making plans.”
