The weekend forecast Central Otago is in for a wild weekend of weather, according to MetService.

The week of weather has been a wild ride, and according to MetService, this weekend will be no different.

MetService Meteorologist Lewis Ferris says the week of weather rolls on into the weekend.

“This week has been a busy one in terms of weather systems and the next few days see the progression of a couple more,” Lewis says.

Today appears likely to be cloudy, with a few showers in the early morning and again in the afternoon. Westerlies, gusty during the day.

“A cold front moves up the South Island on Friday, this means showers and breezy winds with snow possible down to 800m in Central Otago,” Lewis says.

“Some sleety showers persist into Saturday morning but the weather looks a bit brighter come the afternoon.

“Sunday should start off ok but the next weather feature is approaching so northwest winds will be getting strong (especially up on the ranges) and rain is due later in the day.

“Wet weather holds into Monday morning but we’re looking at some settled conditions as the week wears on.”

Monday is likely to include rain turning to a few showers early on with a southerly change.
