Spring is starting to poke its nose up as sunshine is predicted to dominate the forecast over the weekend and into next week, according to MetService.
According to MetService today (Friday) will see a maximum of 8°C is likely, while the minimum overnight temperature tonight will plunge to about -5°C.
Some isolated showers are on the cards throughout the day, clearing and becoming fine around midday, with southwesterlies dying out in the afternoon.

MetService meteorologist Andy Best says a ridge of high pressure builds over much of the country later today following a cold front which departs the upper North Island overnight later tomorrow morning.
“The ridge moves over the North Island tomorrow leaving much of the South Island under the influence of a north to northeast flow,” Andy says.
“This flow gives the fine weather tomorrow with frosty start. On Sunday some cloudy periods with a few showers possible but

Saturday is forecast to be fine. Morning frosts with northerlies developing. Maximum temperature will hit about 12°C while the minimum overnight Saturday/Sunday 1°C.
Sunday looks to be partly cloudy with scattered rain in the afternoon with northerly winds.
Maximum daytime temperatures reach 15°C, while the minimum overnight temperatures will dwell about 1°C on Sunday night/Monday morning.
