Central Otago’s weekend is set to experience its first taste of winter.
MetService meteorologist Lewis Ferris says "Snow has turned up on the hills around parts of Central Otago this morning as cold fronts zipped up the country."
This sets the scene for the next couple days with scattered showers through the region on Saturday with the potential for snow to around 500m.
“Coupled with the bitterly cold, strong southwest winds, which will make for blizzard like conditions for parts of the ranges.”
The weekend will be experiencing colder temperatures as the first taste of winter settles in, according to MetService.
Lewis says, “On Sunday the cool southwesterlies persist but the sun looks to make an appearance bringing that temperature back into double digits.”
“Morning frosts look to persist into next week with relatively settled weather on the cards as high pressure moves in from the Tasman Sea.”
