The Teviot Valley’s vaccination uptake has stalled as the region attempts to reach 90% double dose vaccinations.
As of Wednesday, Central Otago District Mayor Tim Cadogan says just 19 people received their first dose over the last week.
“Disappointingly, Teviot Valley has remained at a static 86.2% first dose, same as last week,” he says.
“Burrowing into the data, there have been just 19 further people getting their first dose in the Teviot in the last week.
“Remember, there are special vaccine clinics in Millers Flat and Ettrick Wednesday and Thursday evening this week 5.30 to 7.30 respectively. Hopefully that will help lift the Teviot rates.”
Mayor Tim says he has been able to gain clarification on Earnscleugh’s first vaccine figure from an alternate source.
“Interestingly, Earnscleugh is ranked 39th from 2,156 Statistical Units in New Zealand for first dose uptakes which is an outstanding result and will give that community great comfort when the virus gets here.
“In fact, there are only 38 people of eligible age in Earnscleugh now not double vaccinated.
“One other bit of good news; at its current trajectory, Clyde should join Earnscleugh in being over 90% double-dosed next week.”
A few weeks ago, Mayor Tim wrote an opinion piece and says it is not a matter of if Covid-19 comes to Central Otago, but when.

A Ministry of Health spokesperson says the continued spread of COVID-19 to regions throughout New Zealand, including into the South Island, is a reminder that everyone needs to heed the advice that will help keep our communities as safe as possible.
“That includes ensuring you and your loved ones are fully vaccinated if eligible, that you wear a mask, keep a safe distance from people outside your bubble, and keep track of your movements outside your home.”
It comes as the ministry announced two new cases of COVID-19 in Christchurch yesterday.
One of these cases was announced Wednesday and was officially added to the case numbers Thursday.
The other is a household contact of the first case and is already in isolation.
The Ministry continues to urge people in Canterbury to check the Ministry’s locations of interest page, for details about any locations if, and when, they are identified.
“We also continue to advise passengers on flight NZ1295 from Auckland to Christchurch on Saturday 13 November to get a test today, if they haven’t already, and monitor for symptoms for the next 10 days, following the two current Christchurch cases travelling on the flight prior to testing positive.”
People can check if their GP can provide COVID-19 testing by calling them or via the Healthpoint website.
