Cromwell’s successful B Grade table tennis team will take part in an ‘all comers’ tournament next month, following the team’s success at the South Island Table Tennis Championships.
A combined Cromwell/Wānaka team won the B Grade event at the South Island champs, which took place in Christchurch in September.
During the event, a team from Kaiapoi suggested the Crowell team hold a tournament in Wānaka.
“Wānaka organiser Tim Lam and I were excited about this and wanted to make it worth their while,” Cromwell club organiser Tim Hawkins said.
He said the upcoming event was “about encouraging people to play”.
The tournament has so far attracted six teams, including two from Canterbury and one from Southland.
The tournament will take place at the Wānaka Recreation Centre on December 10-11.
The event will be a round robin teams competition, with sessions from 9am-12pm and 2-5pm on Saturday, and a session on Sunday from 9am-12pm.
“It would be great if we can get as many people as possible as there will be players of all skill levels which we will match up,” Tim Lam said.
