Suspicion lifted over ambulance fireBackup units have been called in to provide cover after the blaze

A police investigation of a blaze which left two Cromwell-based Ambulance units damaged and inoperative has revealed no suspicious circumstances.

The fire was ignited on Friday afternoon (December 30).

St John Central Otago area operations manager David Baillie said police had advised there was no evidence to pursue any line of enquiries associated with the fire.

“We are no longer treating the fire as suspicious in nature,” he said.

The blaze left two standby ambulance units heavily damaged.

Backup units from the surrounding district have been called in to cover the damaged vehicles should they be required in an emergency.

The damaged ambulances were removed from the Cromwell St John Station on Saturday afternoon.
