Successful tournament week for Central schoolsThe DHS Hockey team had a triumphant win of 6-0 in their last game: Madie Hill, Amber Scobie, Kass Pont, Hannah Tait, Mekah O'Neill, Ana Flannery, Emer Bryant, Eryn Scott, Bridget Mullally (back row), Sophie Wilson, Ariana Webb, Jenna Airey, Billie Grant, Nina Hamilton and Steffi Moss (front row).

Hundreds of local high school students gave it their all in the sporting arena representing Central high schools at South Island Secondary Schools (SISS) tournament week.

Dunstan High School (DHS) principal Reece Goldsmith said everything had gone well.

“We have had lots of feedback about how awesomely our students conducted themselves. The staff, parents, coaches and managers have all been superb, giving up their time and energy to support the students also.”

Cromwell College (CC) principal Mason Stretch said he was exceptionally proud of their teams.

“[We’re] so grateful for the support from the staff, parents, coaches and managers involved. It has been a memorable week for us all.”

After three years of missed tournaments due to Covid-19, DHS sports coordinator Sally Mulllaly said it was “fantastic” to get students away to compete in their sport of choice.

Sending sports teams to SISS tournaments in Timaru, Gore, Dunedin, Invercargill and Nelson requires an army of community support with activities such as fundraising, transportation, coaching, team management and logistics planning (uniforms, food, accommodation).

The Central App has a selection of team photos from some high school teams who participated. Thanks to all of those who submitted their photos and well done to all involved.
