Successful nationals for Central BMX clubs The Alexandra BMX club contingent who travelled to the BMX Nationals in Tauranga (March 18 -19)

Twenty-two Central BMX riders from Alexandra and Cromwell clubs rode hard at the BMX Nationals last weekend against the best riders in New Zealand.

Cromwell BMX spokesperson Tracy said the weekend in Tauranga was full of intense riding, a fair few crashes and some great results.

“The youngest riders in the club… Cooper Rushbrook, Sam Grubb and Noah Lindsay rode their wee hearts out,” she said.

“Although they race for participation only they know exactly where they are placing and unofficially were in the top three of their age groups, an awesome achievement.”

Tracy said for the club’s older riders there was tough and tight competition.

“[Cromwell BMX club] still managed to secure three podiums with Jono Hansen NZ3 (11 Boys), Quinn Lindsay NZ3 (11 Girls) and Charlie Leyser NZ3 (13 Boys).”

Cromwell’s Ben James raced for the first time in the junior elite category (elite males aged 17 and 18).

“These guys …are all vying for a spot on the New Zealand World Cup team,” Tracy said.

“The racing is very fast and extremely tough. Ben rode really well but unfortunately just missed out on the podium and came away with a solid fourth.”

Cromwell BMX’s Jono Hansen was selected to go to Australia in July with the NZ Mighty 11 team

An Alexandra BMX club spokesperson said they were proud of all the riders.

“Such fantastic results from all of you, along with a great attitude and sportsmanship.”

Alexandra’s Holly Oldham brought home a gold and Ali Campbell a silver.
