Former Central Otago district mayor Malcolm MacPherson was presented with a lifetime achievement award for services to Central on Thursday (November 24).
The Alexandra Clyde and District Business Group (ACDBG) handed over the award at Malcolm’s home prior to the awards and annual general meeting evening on November 30.
Malcolm was also presented with a life membership of the Alexandra District Museum continuing along a line of former mayors who have contributed significantly to the museum.
Russell Ibbotson, a long time friend of Malcolm's and an ACDBG board member, delivered the certificate.
Malcolm and Russell worked together when the Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery was set up.
Malcolm was mayor for three terms from 2001-2010. He was also a Central Otago district councillor in the 1990s and served on the Otago and Southern District Health Boards.
He was made an Officer of the NZ Order of Merit (ONZM) for his services to the community in the Queen’s Birthday honours list in 2018.
Malcolm has been a member and past chair of Central Lakes Trust, he has had significant involvement with many local Central organisations along with Central Stories, including The Alexandra Men’s Shed Trust, the Jolendale Park Charitable Trust, Clyde Rescue Boat Trust and Keep Alexandra Clyde Beautiful.
