Snow is falling in several areas around Central this morning (Friday July 15) but is not settling or affecting travel at this stage, Aspiring Highways operations engineer Gerard Williams says.
However there is a chance the snow will stick around, he said.
Areas affected are the Lindis Pass (ice and grit); SH85, which has snow around Kyeburn; and SH8 has snow between Alexandra and Roxburgh.
Looking toward the weekend, Metservice says morning cloud looks to clear on Saturday (July 16) but Alexandra is forecast a high of just 6°C.
“The clear skies and light winds are prime conditions for that already low temperature to plummet overnight. Expect a very frosty start on Sunday with -5°C likely,” MetService meteorologist Lewis Ferris said.
Morning cloud looks to clear on Saturday but Alexandra is forecast just a high of 6°C, according to MetService.
On Sunday some high clouds will start to invade the skies and northwesterly winds will be picking up, with gales for the ridgetops, he said.
“The northwesterly winds bring a warmer day, maybe making double digits, and Monday morning may not even be frosty, however some wet weather is due on Monday.
“Snow is possible to around 600m and the northwest winds turn around to the southwest. “
More settled weather looks likely in the following days.
