One of the UK’s most successful bands, with 60 million records sold worldwide, will headline the 2024 Gibbston Valley Winery Summer Concert.
Simple Minds had 15 hits in the New Zealand Top 50 charts in the 1980s. Songs like Don’t You (Forget About Me), and Waterfront reached number one for 13 weeks, others include Promised You A Miracle and Alive & Kicking.
“Over the past 10 years Simple Minds have rekindled the magic that made them a vital artistic force in their early days which has found themselves playing to hundreds of thousands of people every year, all over the world,” Greenstone Entertainment marketing and PR manager Hayden Dickason said.
Joining Simple Minds on the Gibbston Valley stage will be rock legends Texas, Collective Soul, and Pseudo Echo.
Texas, known for hits I Don’t Want A Lover and Say What You Want, recently performed the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury 2023 to rave reviews and will bring that energy with them to New Zealand, Hayden said.
Formidable five-piece rock band Collective Soul will bring a list of Top 40 New Zealand hits from the 90s including Where The River Flows and The World I Know.
Pseudo Echo pioneered the eighties with their avant-garde look and electro sound, introducing audiences to a new sound in an era of pub rock. Having originally been on the bill to play the cancelled Summer Concert Tour in 2021, they’ll be sure to please with their stylised look and electro sound including hit singles Funky Town, which reached number one on the NZ Singles Charts in 1987, as well as Beat For You, Listening and the unmistakable Send Me An Angel.
“We’re thrilled to have secured the amazing lineup of four international artists for next year’s Summer Concert Tour,” Greenstone Entertainment CEO Amanda Calvert said.
“Our fans will love the awesome array of 80s and 90s hits that will bring a real summer festival feel.”
The Gibbston Valley Winery Summer Concert is scheduled to take place on Saturday February 3, 2024 (Waitangi Weekend).
Tickets are priced from $159 (plus booking fee) and go on sale to Greenstone Club Members on Wednesday July 19 and to the general public on Friday July 21.
