Roxburgh residents are being urged to keep cars secure as weather turns cold.
Police Prevention Team Central Otago Constable Tamah Alley said residents need to remember common sense, to secure their cars as well as their valuables and homes.
"As temperatures drop, Police are reminding Roxburgh residents to keep vehicles locked and car keys somewhere safe," Tamah said.
"Historically, in the winter months, it's not uncommon for opportunists to look for somewhere warm to shelter or a free ride home.
"We always advocate you keep your property secure at all times and that includes your vehicles. With winter around the corner it’s a good reminder not to be complacent.
"Remember to keep your valuables out of sight or better still, don't leave them in your vehicle.
"Car alarms and steering locks are also an effective deterrent.
"And if you have a garage...it's a great idea to use it."
