Queenstown Airport is launching its next major capital project, extending the terminal north to add 800m² of new office and operational space for Air New Zealand, Planebiz, and Aviation Security.

Over 14 months, the project will deliver modern workspaces, upgraded security areas, and significant electrical improvements, including a new transformer and power centre.

“This will give airline staff a much better work environment and improve operational efficiency,” says project manager Greg Emms.

The $12 million project, scheduled for completion in early 2027, will also enhance the airport’s resilience. “Queenstown Airport is an essential community asset, and we need to ensure our critical

infrastructure is robust,” Emms adds.

Meanwhile, $10 million is being invested in seismic strengthening of the terminal, including steelwork, bracing, and reinforced columns. Work is underway and will continue at night for the next 17 months to improve safety and earthquake preparedness.

“This seismic strengthening project underscores Queenstown Airport’s commitment to the safety of our passengers, staff, and wider community,” says Chief Operating Officer Todd Grace.
