One hundred and sixty five rubber duckies hit the water in Naseby for the annual Great Naseby Duck Race on the final day of 2024 (December 31).
Organiser Keryn Goodsir said it’s the second year running she’s organised the fun event that raises money for a local cause or organisation.
“The race is about ten minutes long, it was slightly extended this year.
“It’s old fashioned fun and all for the kids really.”
“The kids were all alongside the water, ready with sticks to free any ducks who got trapped.”
Sadie (2), Leo (11 months) with John and Nicole McColl enjoyed the atmosphere.

Keryn said the morning race which was at 11am had “a zillion” spot prizes and it was bigger and better than in 2023 when around 150 tickets were sold.
After the action, each child received some chips and soft drink courtesy of the Royal Hotel in Naseby.
Keryn said this year the proceeds were going to the Naseby Fire Brigade, last year’s event went to Naseby Vision who were working towards a basketball court.

There were five categories for varying ages, 0-5 years, 6-10 years, 11-18 years and 18+ (adults)
Prizes were awarded for first, second, third and last place. To enter, participants paid cash for a numbered duck.
Keryn and her team of helpers devoted approximately 20 hours to organise the event and wrap spot prizes.
She thanked local businesses for their support of the community focused event.
When she’s not counting ducks, Keryn operates a companion driving service in her hometown of Dunedin.
