Power cut to homes in Alex-Fruitlands after substation fault

Aurora Energy has confirmed a fault at its Alexandra zone substation earlier this morning caused widespread power outages in Alexandra and the Fruitlands areas.

General manager future network and operations Matt Settle said they were grateful to its fault crews for their quick response; by 8:30am, they were able to back-feed power to most customers, including central Alexandra.

Line patrols were underway in the Fruitlands area and power would be restored in stages, once each section of the lines has been inspected.

As at 9am there were just over 260 customers remaining without power and they expected restoration to be completed later this morning.

"We’ll continue to share updates on our website as new information becomes available.

"At this stage, it’s unclear whether the fault is related to the high winds. Our immediate priority is restoring power to all affected customers and once this is complete, we’ll investigate the cause of the fault," he said.
