The upgraded Ranfurly John St playground is officially opening with karakia, waiata and a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday (May 29).
The opening kicks off at 10.30am with Central Otago mayor Tim Cadogan welcoming visitors and invited guests.
Maniototo Area School’s kapa haka group, St John School, the kindergarten, Kids Play and Central Otago District Council (CODC) staff plan to be there.
Maniototo community board member Stu Duncan said the project had been identified through the long-term plan process as a must have for the community.
“The playground is another fantastic example of our community working together to create a great asset for our community and visitors,” he said.
Creo is the company behind the $200,000 upgrade to the playground. The company also recently designed and built the new Miners Lane playground in Clyde.
People are advised to wear warm clothing, and in the event of bad weather a call will be made by 9.30am whether or not to cancel the event.
There is an informal CODC drop-in and feedback session on key council services (parks, pools and libraries) at the Ranfurly council chambers throughout the day (from 11am -7pm, Monday, May 29).
It’s a chance for residents to talk to the Maniototo community board members and council staff about what they want to happen with pools and open spaces for the next long term plan period.
