The Central App’s Vicki McLean, who is on the ground in the Ida Valley, says snow began falling at about 4am and has settled in, however it may not last too long.

“I was woken early as my dog wanted out, within a few moments my dog, Skye, was back at the door covered in snow.

That's the fun bit, however our farmers will do it tough today if it gets any worse,” she says.

Cromwell residents have had two days of snow with reports that snow fell on hills and around the town from early Sunday morning.

Road closures due to snowfall are currently in place for Crown Range Road, Haast Pass and Lindis Pass (SH8). An update will be provided at 10am this morning.

Upper Clutha snowing , plough trucks out and about . Extreme caution required between Lake Hawea and Wanaka through to Luggate . Wakatipu has wet roads but light snow falling around Arrow junction.

There was rain across the region overnight, leaving roads wet in most areas. Temperature is currently sitting between 1°C and 4°C at 6.10am.

Showers are expected to continue throughout the day however caution advised particularly around daybreak if temperatures drop.

Roads south and East of Alexandra are wet but well gritted .
