A house has been destroyed in a fire which took place early this morning (Thursday 20 May) in Wanaka.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) was called out to the fire on Wilkin Rd at 2.24am.

Four fire appliances attended the blaze including teams from Luggate and Lake Hāwea, which left the scene at 5am.

A Wanaka fire appliance returned at 7.30am this morning to quell a minor flare up.

No injuries have been reported.

“We believe there were two occupants who were out of the house when we got there,” a FENZ spokesperson told the Wanaka App.

It was too early to say the exact extent of the damage, or the cause of the fire, but a fire investigator is now on the scene.
