New initiative to keep Central locals loyalThe faces behind The Central and Waitaki Apps are (from left) Anna Robb, Ashley Smyth, Rachel Jones, Sue Wards, Sarah Calder, Alex Regtien, Cara Tipping-Smith and front row Vicki McLean, Caitlyn Thomson and Hani Mohd.

Central residents will find a new ‘Local Loyal’ button with vouchers and discounts at local businesses on the main page of the Central App from today.

The Central App owner Vicki McLean said the idea behind the button is to connect readers to local businesses, and the best offers in town.

“The Local Loyal section will have monthly deals to delight shoppers and foster loyalty to the businesses that make Central vibrant and special.

“Locals just need to show the offer to receive their discount for being a local loyal during the month, or particular time frame for that deal.

“We’ve launched with drink and dining offers, a service special for your vehicle, a wellness treat, and a 40% discount on electric blankets, all pick-me-ups for this time of year.”

The Central App is locally owned and operated, and committed to providing hyper-local community news, measurable digital marketing for local businesses, and relevant offers for our district’s residents.

Some new faces who have joined the Central App team in recent months; Tracie Barrett (journalist) and Caitlyn Thomson (marketing and client liaison).

Tracie brings with her 20 years of experience as a journalist in covering local democracy issues and Caitlyn has digital experience, local contacts and a passion for client relationships.

One other change is the Central App’s ' The Outlet Podcast‘ - The Voice of Central. It is an additional source of local information, produced by experienced broadcaster Brent Harbour.

Brent is the host of the podcast for other apps in the iapp network including Central, Southland, Queenstown, and Wānaka. All episodes are around 20 mins long with in-depth interviews and commentary of interest to each district.

“[Podcasts] create diverse voices on a diverse range of topics. Our podcast is serving local communities, letting them find out what is going on where they live, but also exposes them to tech, business, sustainability and so much more,” Brent said.

A partnership between the Central App and the Waitaki App brought the Waitaki App to life this year (and it’s also free to download on the app or android store).

This means community news and local loyal deals are available if you’re travelling to the neighbouring Waitaki district. For Waitaki Local Loyal click here

Vicki said although the team is relatively small “we work hard to be better and improve what we do as we evolve with the digital growth”.

“Feedback is always valued and carefully considered. We will continue to develop new initiatives to engage our local people so we all flourish together, the support of our community does not go unnoticed.”
