A new business and leadership group is being formed to shape the future of Central, with its first meeting to be held in Alexandra tonight.
Organisers and interested business leaders are meeting for the first annual general meeting to establish the incorporated society, vote for people to take on the organising roles, and adopt a draft constitution at Alexandra Community House at 7.30pm.
The purpose of the group is to connect and support local leaders, streamline communication, provide valuable resources, and offer meaningful opportunities to grow and collaborate.
At the meeting people will be appointed into the roles of chair, vice chair, treasurer, secretary, and committee members.
Everyone was welcome to attend and be part of the conservation to drive progress, group spokesperson Dewald de Beer said.
“Our main aim is to get those who are keen together, and then it's a bit of a blank canvas to get input from the leaders in our community as to what we do next… at a granular level.
“We’re connected to Business South and they’ll be advocating for the big stuff.”
Dewald said he had no expectations about the numbers of people turning up but nominations for committee roles had been sent in, along with several apologies from people keen to be involved who could not make the first meeting,
In mid January, Alexandra Clyde & Districts Business Group secretary Stu Millis confirmed to The Central App the group was winding up after 30 years of championing business in the region.
Stu said they struggled to get people to come along to meetings as they were just too busy, and the group had pretty much become defunct.
The new group is holding a monthly breakfast meeting, the first is planned for February 26 at The Finery.
