A Christmas romance is playing out on social media this week, as one local searches for someone special.
Known only by his first name, Steve was recently posted on Alexandra Buy and Sell by his friend Paula Race, with the caption “this is my mate Steve, he's awesome”.
“Yesterday I told him that I put a desk on marketplace for free and it was snapped up straight away so he asked if I would put him on marketplace to see if he got the same result,” Paula posted.
“Free to the right person.”
Photos of Steve include him making a love heart symbol with his hands (including both thumbs), then multiple points of interest, such as the left ankle, left ear, right bicep, belly button, hands (potentially missing right thumb) and the obligatory sitting on Santa’s lap.
At time of writing, the post had nearly 300 likes and nearly 100 comments.
Paula, in the comments, answered a host of questions by potential buyers, including listing his top five talents.
She wrote, “1) rowing; 2) great at growing prize winning spuds; 3) honesty ;4) good at driving fast cars slowly; 5) excellent dart player.”

One user asked if Steve does lawns, to which Steve bluntly replied “no”.
Liana Zara went in to bat for Steve, and gave him a glowing reference.
“Steve is both blue collar and black tie so would pretty much suit everyone.”
It is uncertain if Liana has a Steve of her own or if her product review is legitimate.
Marianne Maslin asked “I'm also interested to see his opinion on women's body hair.
Writing for Steve, Paula Race said “Steve said ‘women have body hair’.”
Marianne followed up by asking some tough questions.
One person even turned Steve into a short, animated GIF. Image courtesy Facebook/Dan Ja Rogers.
“A friend would like to know how he is with companion animals - is he competitive with other pets? Would he be compatible with flop eared rabbits at all?”
Steve, through Paula, said “rabbit is good roasted”.
Speaking to The Central App, Paula says the story for why the post was made, is exactly as described in the advert.
She confirmed Steve does have both thumbs and is in good working order.
“The free desk was snapped up, Steve said to put him on marketplace and see if he gets snapped up," she explains. "We didn't know what to expect but thought it would be at least a laugh.
“I personally am really hoping to find Steve a date.
“Steve is a gentleman and hoping to find a friend to go out with, have a laugh and maybe dinner.
“He said it doesn't have to be a romantic thing he's just looking for someone to have a laugh with.”

When asked about what Paula can tell The Central App about Steve, Paula is colourful.
“Have you heard of the term "resting B**** face"?”
“Steve has a 'resting grumpy face' so people often assume he is grumpy when he's not, this probably doesn't help with his 'approachability'.
“He's also a bit shy and definitely not forward or confident when it comes to dating so he needs a little help in this area".
As for Steve and what he thinks about the post.
“Steve thinks the post is great,” Paula says. “It's provided a lot of people with a lot of entertainment.
“If nothing comes out of the post, well at least it's been fun.
“We have talked about it a lot as I have to consult Steve to ensure I answer the questions correctly.
“I'm not making up the answers. These are Steve's answers.”
When it comes for serious enquiries and offers, Paula said Steve has had some interest.
“We had an offer of $1,000,000 which we turned down.
“He is free to the right person. Not for sale!
“Somebody asked if we shipped to Australia but she didn't seem like the right person either so we didn't pursue that avenue.

“One person asked 'what condition is this item in?' so we answered honestly "the item generally operates well and occasionally malfunctions".”
Steve says "it’s been great so far, we'll let it run its course and see where this ends up".
"If there is enough interest we're considering having a 'meet Steve' evening or brunch," Paula says.
