Important regulatory changes are coming up for local sports clubs via the Incorporated Societies Act 2022.

Sports Otago is running a ‘must watch’ forum on Monday (March 27) in Dunedin and via a livestream where the act will be covered by an expert speaker.

Sport Otago community sport advisor Alan Nicholls said it was a chance to hear the latest information from experts, and everyone is welcome to attend.

New Zealand Amateur Sport Association chair Gordon Noble-Campbell will cover the changes, implementation and the actions that sports clubs need to take due to the new legislation.

Gordon Noble-Campbell is a retired premier rugby referee and a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors

Sports clubs and membership based groups will need to meet new requirements to reregister under the new act.

If you don’t reregister you’ll operate under the old act (The Incorporated Societies Act 1908), and then after a period of time you’ll no longer be able to operate.

Clubs have two and a half years to complete the registration (between October 2023 - April 2026).

The new act includes other key changes such as governance, constitution, members and membership, committee and officers duties, dispute resolution and financial reporting.

A second aspect of the forum is the National Sport Club Survey (NSCS) 2022.

Auckland University of Technology (AUT) sport leadership and management senior lecturer Dr Michael Naylor will share the results from last year’s survey, along with how people can get involved in the 2023 survey.

The Forum will be held in person at the Edgar Centre in Dunedin from 12 noon - 1pm on March 27 (a light lunch will be available) and can also be viewed on the Sport Central Facebook page.
