A variety concert has been pushed back until winter due to a clash with a Multicultural Football Festival (MFF) being held in Central this month.
Welcoming Communities officer Heather Harries said the postponement meant more focus could be on the upcoming fun, family friendly multicultural football festival, to be held on the same day, of March 16, as the variety concert was originally planned.
The new variety concert date is not yet set, but it will be mid-winter, potentially on a Sunday afternoon to make it easier for young families to attend, Heather said.
The MFF kicks off at 11.45am on Saturday March 16, at Pioneer Park. It’s free and there will be games for kids and food stalls offering food from the various cultures represented in the football teams.
Teams of RSE (recognised seasonal employees) from Pasifika nations and seasonal workers with holiday work visas from European countries are taking to the field.

Local football clubs are taking registrations for the upcoming season for junior and adult players.
The first weekend of games is April 27-28 for junior teams.
